(well maybe not the only Holly Bobbins…but this one anyway )
How are you?
This is basically what you’ll see when you book me! Me grinning at you all day from behind my camera. I bloody love my job and this is how happy it makes me.
I forking hate the introducing ME stuff … I have written this about 15 times and just think I sound like a twat !! … but here goes …
For the next week as I speak, I am 44, I have two fruits of my womb, they absolutely love it when I call them that. HA!
My son Kalo is 19 and my daughter Ava is 18 … both are bloody brilliant.
I really like them as people. It’s exciting watching humans you made, grow and flourish (don’t get me wrong the first 10-12 years were pretty brutal as a single mum but mumming is the long game !!)
I am married to my best friend
I know everyone says that, but it really is true for me.
Neil and I have been best mates since we met at college in the 90’s, have shared everything over the years. He has always been there.
All the drunken parties and festivals of our misspent youth ( and misspent mid-youth!!). One of the first people to hold my children when they were born. He was one of the first to be by my side when my sister died. My best friend through it all and then finally in 2015 the penny dropped. Consolidated by a raw email from Neil and a magical weekend at Glastonbury where the ACTUAL Dali Lama spoke to me (and about 1000 other people) in my pyjamas in a rainy field and said ‘Choose Love’ …
So we did!
We got married in 2017 and honestly have the most wonderful life together.
We picked a new surname together because, well it’s a long story, which I can tell you if you’re interested (…but basically f*&k the patriarchy! )
So my real name is Holly Treloar. Bobbins came from an episode of the Simpsons in 1997 where they did a take-off of Mary Poppins, as Shary Bobbins … I had a coat that looked like Mary Poppins so I became Holly Bobbins and it stuck forever more …
Neil is the BEST step-dad to the kids, who have also known him their whole lives. I am incredibly grateful. It’s very freeing being married to someone who knows literally everything about you. Good, bad, ugly and still loves you!!!
I have been shooting weddings for nearly 20 years now … one of the first weddings I ever shot was for one of Neils’s best men. I shot it on FILM it was that long ago !! They are still happily married 20 years this year. I think maybe we should do some sort of re-shoot as I have definitely improved over the last 20 years!
I love what I do, I still grin like a fool and very often shed a tear. Weddings are magical, bearing witness to this moment still fills me with massive happiness. The moment it doesn’t is time I stop.
Alongside my photography, I am also an artist ( feel even more of a twat saying that but it turns out it’s true !!) I create paper-cutting artwork and more recently some pen and ink work. If you wanted to have a look some of the prints are available here.
