Hayling Island Wedding. Steph and Sara get married

When fate brings you together

Against all odds, these two gorgeous brides got married and had the most magical day at Tournabury Woods Estate.

Sara and Steph got in touch a week and a half before their wedding. Unfortunately, their photographer was unable to make their wedding, so with a little over a week to go, they found me.  We met for a coffee, hit it off and I was on board for their big day.

So on a gorgeous June day, I headed down to Hayling Island, only to get a phone call from Sara on the way to say there had been a burst water main on the main route onto the Island.  I managed to make it onto the island thankfully as only moments afterwards they closed the bridge onto the Island.

Sara was getting ready at an Air B&B, while Steph was at Tournabury.  I went to Sara first, and despite having no water, (they had to find a local hotel to have a shower), spirits were good and we had a lovely morning getting ready.

After heading to Tournabury we realised that burst water main was causing A LOT of problems. Guests couldn’t get onto the island and a 20-minute journey was taking hours.  We then found out that the second registrar couldn’t get onto the island. It was almost looking like they wouldn’t be able to even get married, never mind have all their guests with them.

One registrar was already on the island, and after pushing the ceremony back 2 hours, we went ahead, but it would mean that officially they wouldn’t be married until the other registrar made it onto the island as she had all the paperwork. We had guests abandoning their cars and literally having to run across fields to make it.

It could have been a total disaster, but Steph and Sara just took it in their stride and in the end, all this drama added to the magic of their day. In all my years as a Hampshire wedding photographer, I have never known things beyond anyone’s control to go so wrong … but that’s the thing with weddings .. you have planned and planned and visualised the day, and sometimes shit happens and you just have to go with it. Sara and Steph were amazing and didn’t let any of it dampen their day .. in fact, it just added to it and they have a hell of a wedding day story !!

I’ll leave you with some lovely words from these gorgeous brides and of course some images of their wonderful day.

“There is only one word to describe Holly, and that’s LEGEND. Holly went above and beyond for us at our wedding, I’m sure she’ll tell you the story herself when you book her (which you should). The way she captured every emotion of not only us, but our guests make for incredible photos. Holly is able to capture natural/true photos and be everywhere at once (which still astounds us). Our guests adored her, and we are forever grateful for finding her. Simply put, we could not have asked for more perfect photos of our the best day of our life! I cannot recommend Holly enough…she will give you memories you can cherish forever through her photos.

Sara and Steph xx”
